Hesitation Marks is an album about what happened to the guy that made The Downward Spiral after getting through it all, and among other things, being happy. This is a concept album about that, and I think it’s profound. Trent was really messed up and couldn’t continue to live like that. Be thankful he made it out on the other side. I’m sure many of us were in situations that made us feel like that and this guy is the one who helped us through those times - I hope that each and every one of you who were in a dark place or are now get out of it. On a personal note the thing that stuck out to me is ‘I am home, I am free’ and right now I’m currently between homes - and I can just imagine how awesome that would feel to finally be in a comfortable happy place, and make it there on my own terms, and by staying true to myself and from my art. I also think it takes courage to share something so drastically different and it must feel liberating. Be thankful he’s still making music + his health which means many more years of music that will help countless people.
Whenever I listen to Hesitation Marks, I think to myself *no two NIN albums are the same and that they're all entirely different from each other*. TR may be in a better place than what he used to be, but he can still write a decent song and still has something to say...he's always had something to say.
